New additions to the farm!!!

NEW ANIMALS ON THE FARM

We know it has been a while since we last posted, but oh well. So be prepared for a very long post!!!!!

First, we have a new horse!! A good friend of ours no longer needed him, as their daughter grew out of him, and gave him to us for free.  He is a Quarter Horse gelding, bay in color, and VERY pretty.  She told us that he was not broke, so when we took him home Justin started working with him and within 30 minutes, he was riding him! He used to train horses when he did ranch work years ago.

The new horse's name is Blaze.

We also have chicks now!! We ordered chicks from Cackle Hatchery and we have  butcher chicks now.  Three died, but oh well we still have 33 left.

Introducing Miss Piggy!! We picked up a sow to butcher for sausage, and we have to keep her here until the butcher has an opening.

Now, to the goats! They got moved from their old pasture, (because of the horses) and now they live in the new goat pasture!!

There is still some junk in it, but we will move that soon.  The mounds of dirt are from the root cellar which we are building, and they love to climb on them!! (especially the babies).

At the edge of the root cellar

We stacked some pallets down there, so if they jump in, they can jump out again.  Because before the pallets were put in, 3 fell in (Sugar, Minty and Daisy), and of course we had to rescue them and lift them out because they wouldn't jump on the pallets and get out themselves.  Then, after that we left the pallets and of course not one went back in.

In this pasture, they have a stall so they can get out the rain.

The girls are getting to be so big!! We are in the process of weaning Bunny and Sundae

Frosty is so cute!! He is growing so fast

Minty is so elegant and beautiful.  This was when they were in the old pasture

We also branded our cows!!

It was hard with no horse (ours are not trained to do this yet) and no squeeze chute.  The big yearlings were hard to throw, but we did it somehow!! We are still sore from throwing them

Nellybelle, our milk cow heifer that will be in the milk next year!!

All the bottle calves sucking.  They are going to be weaned soon.

Guess what! Sugar is also growing a beard!! You can barely see it, the wispy black hair beneath the chin.
