This is a long post, as I have a lot to catch up on. April and May have been hectic because Mom had surgery April 18th, forcing me to be in charge of everything in the household (laundry, dishes, cleaning, ect.) and all the goat chores (feeding and milking).
We branded and castrated the cows April 20. The cows are yearlings now and it was high time to brand and castrate. It went smoothly. My job was to get the Ivermectin ready, and hand Dad his knife and supplies. I had fun, as guts and blood don't gross me out, but Dock turned green and wouldn't look.
Getting ready...
About a month later Dad worked with Jubilee and rode her around. She behaved wonderfully.
Blaze, the horse with the special personality, was jealous of the attention Jubilee was getting and butted in after hanging around with Dock. He is a lovey-dovey horse, the one with my favorite personality.

Then last Sunday Dad traded off one of our horses, Old Bay, for a bulldozer. It was a killer deal, and Old Bay was traded to a family that will totally spoil him. With the dozer we have knocked down a bunch of trees in the nursery pen, as we have been wanting to do this for a long time. Making room for a future coming pool!
Then something horrible happened about a week ago. Puddins came down with mastitis!!😢
About 4 days ago Puddins' right side of her udder became hard and swollen. We have given her LA 300 and it seems to be working. I'm pretty sure it's mastitis, but the only thing is that she isn't showing any pain, nor blood in the milk, nor stringy milk. I don't know what else to do. Because of the C-section she can't have any more kids anyways. Of course this had to happen to Puddins, the sweetest goat ever😭.
We had a "drive-by" shooting a couple weeks ago. All of us had just went to bed at about 10:00. Mom's window was open when we heard a car stop on the road in front of our house. Then a man's voice started screaming profane language. Mom looked out the window and all she saw was a car parked on the road in front of our house. As she was watching, one of the people shot five shots. The dogs went balistic and Dad called the sheriff. By then the sheriff was too late and the people had long disappeared. Come to find out, it was some seedy people that live in the neighborhood.
Mom finally got her a viola. So lessons have started and I have been teaching her. She is doing great. She also got an advanced piano playing program that she is going through and taking me along, so although school is ending next week, music is not. I will have to carry through the music all summer. I don't mind because I love it, and I plan on becoming a music teacher in the future when I'm grown. We're mainly getting well versed in theory and advancing me into the next level of piano. We are also probably starting monthly lessons with my professional classical piano teacher from last year. My violin lessons have stopped for the summer because my teacher wants to take the summer off. This means I can play what I want and help mom get going on her viola. I do play weekly at our church though. Dad put a new chin rest also on my violin, and I just love it!!
Getting ready...
Dad welded this contraption for the branding iron to get hot in.
Now for the gross stuff...or, in my opinion, the best part...
Branding...
The finished product...
One cow, Midnight, who didn't really enjoy castration part.
Ivermectin going on someone...
Those were a few select pictures. We castrated/branded 14 in all.
