Morning Chores

Have you ever wondered how we do our chores? This is how my daily morning chore time goes.
My first set of chores are the goat chores.
I gather my materials: The wheelbarrow for hay, which I named the "chariot". I fill it with 5 small flakes of the leafiest alfalfa hay I can find(goats detest stems) and push it to their pasture.
I make sure that they have a full tank of water and if there is ice I break it and scoop it out (however it's getting so warm that there hasn't been ice. Wheee!😊).
I then run over and grab the 5 gallon bucket of grain that is by the granary. I lug it to the stanchions where it sets, ready for milking time.
Mom soon arrives with the plastic and stainless steel milking bowls, a can of hot soapy water, 4 pairs of milking rags, and several gallon size containers to put the milk into.
We begin milking. If we capture milk for us to drink we milk Sugar or Minty. Minty has good milk, but Sugar's is the best. Minty's milk gets goaty tasting after a day in the fridge, but Sugar's never does. Ginger has excellent milk like Sugar, but we rarely drink Ginger's simply because her teats are so small it is difficult to keep the milk as clean. Their ultra sweet milk is because Ginger and Sugar are Oberhasli. Minty and Puddins are half Oberhasli, half Alpine. Now, Puddins has wonderful milk too and it takes two days to get goaty in the fridge however, we are not drinking her's this year due to the fact that she had a C-section and was on antibiotics. We have found that we will never raise purebred Alpines without having them at least half Oberhasli because Oberhasli milk flavor is so superior.
Mom and I both milk, so we get done in double quick time, like 10 minutes.
After milking Mom gathers her jugs of milk and goes inside, while I rinse the stanchion off with the rest of the hot soapy water (it's used to wash udders) and gather up the rags to place them in the can. I set it inside the front door and then stand there waiting for bottles.
Mom soon has four bottles ready. Dock and I carry them to the kid stalls.
We feed the kids next. They eat about 10 bottles. These are the size of wine bottles- they are greedy.
Mom washes all milking equipment and bottles and launders her milking rags.
I then go inside, after feeding the cats and dogs.

Taking care of my animals is fun, but sometimes I would like to sleep in once in awhile.
